HOW TEACHERS INDOCTRINATE OUR KIDS
Indoctrination by Kyle Olson Reviewed by Dick Morris
It has become a truism for conservatives that the media and the entertainment industry are biased in favor of the left. We pick and choose the films we watch – or let our kids watch – and tune to Fox News to get what is really going on.
Now comes Kyle Olson’s new book, Indoctrination: How ‘Useful Idiots’ Are Using Our Schools to Subvert American Exceptionalism, which exposes the third leg of the stool that keeps the left propped up in our politics: The systematic indoctrination of our children in the public and private schools of America.
Olson, a long time education reformer, presents chilling evidence of the left’s attempt to ban Christianity and Judaism from the consciousness of our kids. He takes us through the chronically inaccurate rewrite of American history taught in our schools. We are the aggressor. America is not an exceptional nation, unless it be exceptionally guilty of crimes against humanity! In the world of our schools, American democracy is a fraud and our free enterprise system is a monopolistic conspiracy to hold down the poor.
Karl Marx could not have designed a curriculum any better!

Olson traces the migration of the extreme left from economic Marxism to “cultural Marxism,” replacing the theory of class warfare with a cultural war which pits revisionism against our best values and traditions. Freed from the moorings of our shared history and outlook as a nation, this cultural Marxism replaces the values of the melting pot with those of a stubbornly maintained cultural and linguistic diversity. It mocks the motto E Pluribus Unum (out of many, one) and emphasizes division, conflict, and competing interests.
We have become accustomed to hearing American history and politics misinterpreted by leftist university professors. In 2004, the president of Williams College was asked how his faculty voted in the recent election. “One hundred forty-one to nothing for John Kerry” was his proud answer. Campuses that bend and strain to maintain economic, gender, geographic, racial, ethnic and even sexual orientation diversity do nothing to provide balance in their teaching of history and politics.
But in Olson’s book, we see the insidious indoctrination at the elementary and secondary school levels. At least university students can think for themselves and are soon to enter the real world where they can figure things out. But Olson explains how 7- and 8-year-olds are taught to embrace an atheistic, leftist philosophy virtually from the moment they enter school.
Worse, he emphasizes how we are paying for this indoctrination with our tax dollars and how we are being denied the option of finding a school that suits our values by the public school monopoly.
For defenders of freedom, Kyle Olson’s book is a vital necessity to read and absorb. It sets a challenge before us all: To change public education so that it is truly American in its values.
