BOOK REVIEW OF DEMOCRACY DENIED BY PHIL KERPEN
We are all so fixated on the economic mayhem being inflicted on our country by the Obama presidency, that we may have overlooked the power grab and the correlating decrease in our freedom his programs are triggering.
Phil Kerpen, of Americans for Prosperity, has not. In his new book, Democracy Denied: How Obama is Ignoring You and Bypassing Congress to Radically Transform America – and How to Stop Him, Kerpen points a hair-raising tally of the rights, powers, and sacrifice of privacy that we have had signed over to the government as a result of Obama’s policies.
Kerpen explores how Obama has virtually disregarded the constitution in his usurpation of power, installing “czars” with no Senate confirmation – even though to have required Senate assent when he controls the body would have been no big deal. He lays out the case for the unconstitutionality of Obamacare in convincing details. He explains how Administration policies, from cap-and-trade to spreading unionization, are all designed to effect a great transfer of power and wealth from the private sector to the government.
But it is the more intimate invasion of our rights that makes Kerpen’s book especially important. Medical privacy is a joke in the world of Obamacare. Patient confidentiality has been thrown under the bus. The most basic liberty of all – control over our own health care – has been sacrificed on the altar of universal coverage.
And, long after the vast majority of private sector workers have decided not to join labor unions, Kerpen explains how Obama’s National Labor Relations Board is forcing them into these syndicates whether the workers like it or not.
Democracy Denied catalogues the loss of freedom in a way that is both profound and important.
But, read another way, it is a “to do” list for any incoming Republican president and Senator. His rendition of all of the liberties we have lost is also a laundry list of things to repeal, modify, discard, and circumvent. His book is at once a diagnosis and a prescription for a lack of liberty that is infecting America.
