DON’T LET BOEHNER BETRAY US
Today, Speaker John Boehner said there would be no government shutdown. That’s like robbing a store with a gun, but announcing at the outset that you won’t use it. He is throwing away all of our leverage and seems headed for a “compromise” that will betray his weak position.
It the Republicans don’t shut the government down now, when will they? Over the debt limit? The 2012 budget? They won’t ever do it.
We need to make sure all our Republican Congressmen keep their campaign commitment to us and back the full $61 billion of spending cuts! Every penny! No retreat!
We should want a government shutdown. I know — I ran the Clinton side of the last one. A shutdown would squarely pose the issue to the public of more or less spending. With 3-1 majorities for less spending, we know that we will win that fight. Obama, who has tried to stay above the battle, will have to stand there day after day defending more spending. So he can’t move to the center!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE write or call your Republican Congressman — the guy you helped elect — to demand that he or she stand firm and hold out for the full $61 billion in cuts. Tell him that he should not shrink from shutting down the government if that is the way to cut the deficit and spending.
Tell him you will support a primary fight against him if he backs down! Not one dime. No retreat!
IF WE BACK DOWN NOW, THE ENTIRE ELECTION VICTORY OF 2010 WILL HAVE BEEN SHOWN TO BE MEANINGLESS!
